Jesus is God.
The Bible tells us that God resides in three persons - God The Father, God The Son and God The Holy Spirit. Even though there are three persons, there is one God, not three. This is called the trinity.
This is difficult to understand, because God is a much more complex being than we are. In fact, it's easier to just believe what God tells us about Himself, than to actually try to understand it.
Jesus is that personage known as God The Son.
John tells us that Jesus created everything that was created:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. [John 1: 1-3]
If we keep reading in John, we see something amazing in the next few verses. God Himself, actually steps into our dimension and becomes a human being!
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.. [John 1:14]
God actually brought about a miracle which allowed Himself to be born into a flesh and bones human body. Most of us have seen the Christmas story acted out, where Mary gives birth to a little Baby Jesus in a manger in Bethlehem. What is all too often glossed over is that this helpless little infant was, in actuality, the most powerful being in all of creation... the very creator of everything ... All Powerful God Himself.
Why in the world would God do such an incredible thing? Why would He lower Himself to become a mere man?
Jesus tells us it was for love:
...For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.[John 3:16]
Apparently, God loved us so much that He was willing to step into human form and sacrifice Himself so that we might have everlasting life. To see how this all worked, please go the the next page.
